Today in class, we conducted an experimient which we get to observe the reaction of an acid with metal carbonates.
We tested sodium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate and calcium carbonate with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.
Most of the results were the same. For every single experiment, we also had to test it with limewater and holding a match inside the test tube
The results were similar, the match would always blow out because carbon dioxide gas was being produced inside the test tube and the limewater didn’t have much of a reaction either.
The sodium bicarbonate was the only metal to have a big reaction, it was bubbling, fizzing and a sudden temperature change.
