Individual task 3

To me, moral integrity is to make selfless decisions or actions whenever facing a moral dilemma. An action that is made because of pure belief or just following the your conscience, whether if it is right or wrong regardless of the consequences that will most likely to follow.

Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of great moral integrity. Whilst in prison at Auschwitz, he was often beaten by soldiers if he ever became tired and just stopped working.  He was a priest and despite being torchered and being constantly beaten up soilders, he still managed to comfort the other prisoners and taught them the way of God. Kolbe continued his duties as a priest and heard confessions from the other prisoners. He even volunteered to move the corpses of the prisoners who had been torchered and died. He had many times smuggled bread and wine and celebrate mass, obviously secretly so the soildiers won’t see. During the time he spent in prison some people had escaped from prison. As a consequence, people had to be killed to make up for the punishment. Ten men were chosen to die, one of which had a family. Kolbe begged the soldiers to swap places with this man. He convinced them by telling the soldiers that he was a catholic priest, old and useless.

I think Kolbe decided to sacrifice himself for the man because he believed that it was the right thing to do, he might have even followed in the footsteps of Jesus, as Jesus sacrificed himself for the world. As Kolbe saw himself as an aged priest and had no family, and the young man had his own family to raise. The young man may perhaps one day return back to his family.

Digital media is basically electronic media. I describe digital media is media that can be accessed from the internet. Some forms of media include music, images, videos, emails etc.

Like all technology, it evolves over time. The internet seems to be growing at a rapid rate. About 10 years ago, the internet was spectacularly slow and it wasn’t vey popular amongst the population. Today, the internet is much faster and millions of people use it.

Digital newspapers are quite popular because

  • They’re free of charge
  • They are always there, so forgetting to buy a newspaper on one day isn’t a problem
  • You can find what you need, in a coventional, printed newspaper, people are bombarded with information and things they don’t necessarily need.

Today in class, we conducted an experimient which we get to observe the reaction of an acid with metal carbonates.

We tested sodium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate and calcium carbonate with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.

Most of the results were the same. For every single experiment, we also had to test it with limewater and holding a match inside the test tube

The results were similar, the match would always blow out because carbon dioxide gas was being produced inside the test tube and the limewater didn’t have much of a reaction either.

The sodium bicarbonate was the only metal to have a big reaction, it was bubbling, fizzing and a sudden temperature change.

Today in class, we conducted an experiment which was about different metals reacting with different acids.

We were given 3 different acids: hydrchloric, sulfuric and acetic and 4 different metals: iron, magnesium, zinc and aluminium.

We only managed to test all 4 different metals in the hydrchloric acid. There wasn’t much of any reaction or ‘pop’ we were hopinf for. The magnesium was the only metal in the hydrochloic acid to even react. The magnesium immediately bubbled when the match was held over the test tube.  We did not get to finish the rest of the expriment and the class ran out of matches.

Some safety issues: everyone should be careful with what they are handling with, what chemicals they are using because some may cause serious burns.

A person’s conscience is like a voice in our mind that tells us what to do, how to act or what decisions we should or should not make. Our conscience could have ‘two sides’, usually being completely different to eachother. Someimes, our conscience can arugue with ‘eachother’, therefore its sometimes hard to make a decision.

The way I see how the conscience works, the conscience has two different side with two different ideas. The conscience tells us to think before we act. Its like a debate between the two, they present their ideas to the person and then the person acts.

The Church teaches us to follow our conscience because it is the better choice and it also helps when facing moral dilemas

Moral maturity is marked by the depth and consistancy of moral judgement. Moral maturity is a requirement in the person who is to apply a body of knowledge or a skill to the solution of a problem, or to the understanding of a situation. The development of moral maturity is a process that will take a long time.

The 25 year old man can be reguarded as having a lack of moral maturity because he did not have a self conscience when he resisting arrest from the police and stabbing them.

Morality is concern between good and evil or right and wrong; immorality is the opposite: morally objectionable behavior.

His actions were bad and evil and where not according to what we would call good but was what we would call bad.

Today, we had finally saw our corrosion experiment that we had done about three weeks ago.

The results weren’t too suprising. As I had predicted in my hyporthesis, the iron nail in the water was corroding. The nail was a rusty orange and the rust had sank to the bottom of the test tube. The iron nail in the silica gel showed no sign of corrosion, the silica gel also remained the same. The iron nail in the empty test tube also showed no sign of corrosion.

The only suprise for me was the iron nail in the oil. The nail was completely rusted and the oil had some of the rust floating around. In my hypothesis, I predicted that the nail in the oil would not corrode because the oil would preserve the nail. This just shows that oil can corrode iron.
